Hello everyone,
I recently started working on my brother-in-laws '78 exciter 440. He blew the clutch side piston last season and so I did a complete crank-up rebuild. As I understand, it was running and had spark before the piston melted. Now that I have the engine back together, I decided to check for spark before pulling my shoulder off getting to run again, and I don't have any spark from either plug.
I have been searching the internet feverishly for the past 2 days and found several posts on checking the ignition coil ohms and other such areas, including bypassing switches. Everything seems to test out okay, so I decided to break out the emery cloth and sand every possible ground to see if I overlooked some rust.
I even pulled to flywheel back off and looked to make sure my marks lined up from before I took the main coil off. I am at wits end trying to get some form of life out of this thing.
Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

when you hook up a multi meter to the stator, does it have varying voltage when you pull it over?
when you have a no spark problem you start at the source and work your way out.

Another possibility could be the CDI box.
