has anyone else come across this issue? I have a 01 chassis wich is in good condition and It needed a motor. so I happen to have a 98 700 motor xtra, I installed it only to find out the stator and pick up have different wiring. I then transferred the 01 stator and pickup and flywheel to the 98 motor installed everything and now have no spark. any help will be greatly appreciated thank you.

it will work, you either need to tig weld on a braket for your pickup to set the stock distance to the flywheel or buy a flywheel from a 2001 and up red head tripple motor. They use the old style, thick, flywheel with the new style timing marks. The srx and viper used a light weight flywheel that was thinner. The newer cases had the boss built closer to the flywheel and was machined closer. You could also install the old case from the 01. big pain. Just get a flywheel, they rarely go, so you should be able to find one, though those are the rarest.

I just found an old complete harness from a 98 and am gonna just change the whole harness over the only thing I can see is the headlight harness is different

not just the headlight but EVERYTHING is differnt, including the hand warmers. On the 98 its a 1 dial system for both the hand and thumb, and single bulb headlight, the voltage regualtors(theres 2 of them)are differnt, the cdi box is differnt, so unless your getting the entire electrical system youd be screwed.

fix the problem at the flywheel like Scott suggested, it will be way less problems for you.

not to mention a better sled. You don't realize how nice that dual bulb light is untill your ride the old single.

I went the other way last season by switching my 98 over to 00 electronics and I have to say that from what work you have done so far you'd be better off finding a SX-R flywheel and running the newer electronics.I my personal opinion you'll be much happier,I know I was.
