I have a 97 venture I purchased last year and rode with no issues..getting ready for this season and would like to check and grease the jackshaft and driveson what will fit this sled?haft bearings is it possible to clean and grease them on the sled? Also I am thinking of replacing the steel ski's with plastic ones..any ideas ?
Also any other tips for yearly maintenece I need to take care of.
Thanks Royboy

there are only 2 drive line bearing that you can grease. the one behind the secondary, and the axle shaft bearing. take a dental pick or something similar and pop the out side of the seal out, the use brake cleaner and re pack it with bearing grease. i would take the axle shaft one right off and replace it. who knows if its ever been touched, its easy and cheap to do.
plastic skis will make a big difference, well worth the money.
for yearly maintenance grease every thing, plugs, carbs, carbides, track tension ,sliders and any bad boggie wheels

My 97 steel ski's were look'n rough so I wire brushed and painted (Rustoleum satin & clearcoat)..bought new Yama plastic skins, rivets and Bergstrom triple skegs with all the extras gizmo's..result was excellent and the sled looks good and as intended back in '97

Plastic skis off most newer Yamahas 97 and up will fit with no modification. While your doing the bearings there are quite a few grease zerks in the rear skid best to give those a few pumps.

As far as the maintenance, look at the periodic maintenance chart in the owners manual and do everything it lists. Since you probably do not know what has been done in the past, everything will need to be done up to the mileage it has now. If you do not have an owners manual check eBay, it may not be available from Yamaha any more. There is probably one on line somewhere but it is good to have a paper copy and keep it on the sled.

In addition;
Disassemble and clean the carbs.
Remove the oil pump and grease the shaft and check to see that the flats on the end are not worn.
Check the compression.
