Im going to take the tors switch off the carbs to clean/inspect because both our 700 sx's are acting up, (proper throttle slack) and I was just wondering how exactly the switch comes off. I was reading up quite a bit on this and I cant find very specific answers. Do you just turn the idle adjustment screw clockwise until the switch and presumably the spring come off the hanger? Tried turning it counter clockwise and it just backs off until it gets tight and then nothing. I just dont want to break anything. Both sleds start and take off fine and then the tors kicks in when you back off on the throttle...once the rpms drop, you can take off again. The one sled did this intermittently last year and an adjustment fixed it and now both are doing it this year. Figured its time to actually get in there and clean or replace the switches. Thanks -JF

Thanks for the link, Ive already read it but it does not specify which way to turn the idle screw. Thats really my question. Do i back it off until it gets tight and then go some more? or is it clock wise and it will pop off?

Sounds like the thumb switch is actuating before the carbs get closed. Cable adjustment and/or routing, or carb switch adjustment would be my guess. Sticking slide in a carb or something like that could do it too.

You have an adjustment problem. In all the years I worked for yamaha 99 0/0 of the time it is the adjustment only replaced 1 switch in 25 years

I have not had a chance to screw around with it again yet. Planning on getting it out again tomorrow and will give an update.

Was able to get the sleds out today and play around with the cables. The issue on one of the sleds was resolved with cable adjustment and the other was not. I bypassed the switch at the carbs and the issue stopped so that tells me that the problem resides within the switch at the handlebars correct? The handle bar switch seems to be functioning properly when I hold the switch open and then try to apply throttle the tors kicks on. So not really sure. I think the throttle switch is sticking or hanging up intermittently? going to see if i can take it apart this week.
