Haven't had a chance to tear into it yet. I did pull the plugs. They are a tan color, but the right plug looks like it has aluminum flaking on it.
My biggest question is why? With tan plugs, it should not be running lean. Wife was riding it at around 45mph in a groomed ditch. Its not like it was being hot rodded around. We had to stop for crossings every 1/4 or 1/2 mile, so the rpm were varied. The sled has 5200 miles on it.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Was the mid range up-date ever done to the butterfly carbs?

You will just have to get into into it further to find out. It could have lost oil.

I do not know if the update was done to the carbs. If it lost oil, wouldn't the plugs look something other than tan?

opps, yep you found the problem, looks like a pressure blow out from a part of the piston trying to get compressed between the crank and the case.........

That is what I was thinking. My best guess is that the motor just got tired, piston slap, broke a skirt, the chunk fell and there was no clearance for the rod at the bottom.
