I know the place of the probe change the temp (some) but what kind of temp guys are running on srx

the right temp or exact temp all depends on what probes you have and where you put them, move the probe location a 1/4" and it can change 100's of degrees! You have to go out and tune the sled with the old fashioned reading the plugs and piston wash...THEN, observe your egt and thats where youll want to set your alarm slightly higher then your optimum jetting temp and monitor your temps from there. Could be 1100 degrees, could be 1350 degrees....... all depends on the probe location and the type of the probe.

a member here brought a piped.ported viper here because it wouldnt run"good". Countless pms and phone calls on jetting and clutching set ups and he got frustrated and brought it here from a couple states away. We ride the sled over in the test field and it was indeed lazy running. Sounded rich and dull sounding, obviously wasnt performing very well. So I bring it back to the shop and we rip off the carbs and jet it down. He keeps asking me about the exh temps and where its gonna be. I asked him if he actually used the jetting set ups i gave him, he replies well no because my egt says its already lean..............a little light bulb goes on in my head...lol

I then went to the bench and got the duct tape out, put 2 big peices right over the digitron. He then says to me, "how in the hell are you going to know whats going on now?" The answer was simple, "read the plugs and the piston tops!" Anyways, we take the sled over to the field, it runs alot better and I pull the plugs and inspect the tops of pistons. I tell him we need to go another step or two leaner....... You could tell this guy was nervous.....but i showed him what to watch for on the plugs.

Go back over to test field and whack it, it pulls the skis up and goes like a bat out of hell, runs spot on at 9100rpm! I bring it back and he takes it for a ride, comes back with a smile you couldnt wipe off, says wow, it screams now! We look at the plugs, they are text book perfect coloring, piston tops actually got dry and looked great.

We take off the tape off the digitron, it now reads 1320 degrees, he says "holy cow its melting the engine". I said, nope, its just fine now set your alarm for 1400-1425 degrees and ride it!!!!!

The whole time he was watching the digitron to determine what he needed instead of looking at the plugs and piston to understand what the engine was telling him it wanted.

A egt is fine but you CANT skip the setting up of the carbs!

I was curious to know the exhaust temp of a srx ...I know the perfect way to tune is piston and plug but i still got trouble to read the wash it doesn't seem to be there since its ported ...thnx don

jet it down till it seizes and then go back up 2 jet sizes.....LOL!!! youll be right in the sweet spot....LOL.....................kidding
