There's been a few threads on the SRX starting issues and different people have different fixes ranging from filing the end off the choke plunger to using SX R fuel pumps and it occurred to me earlier that I have never seen anyone talk about using a different fuel pump other than a Yamaha one.Mikuni makes a triple pump but I have no idea if the flow rate is anywhere close to the same as a stock SRX pump;has anyone tried a Mikuni pump?

I don't think that the pump would work because Yamaha went with a automix oil type system. The pump supplies oil to the bearings all the time then mixes the oil within the fuel pump for the gas/oil that goes into the cylinder to provide the top cylinder and ring lubrication.
Bender does make an oil injection retrofit kit that takes the oil going to the pump and puts spray bars by the reeds to spray the oil directly. It's not ever been discussed in recent memory and I believe the only real application is racing where you could forseeably have issues going from idle to WOT pinned and being lean on oil for the time it takes to burn off what's in the bowls and fill it back up with full rate mix.

I dont get the whole starting issue thing, if you adjust the choke properly and the sled is in good running shape they start right up with zero issues. If you live where its really cold and the sled sits out overnights, just shut off the sled with the choke lever when your done riding it, it will start right up again the next morning.
I have never, ever had to file choke plungers, change fuel pump, etc.............

X2 I don't get it either, maybe I've just been lucky

X3 - I don't think it's luck though.
I am a lefty and tug with my left arm during a cold start (or anytime I'm not seated). I never tried tugging with my weaker right arm when cold.
I've never filed my plungers. In fact, I've never had them out of my '01 and have only checked for full/even closure when adjusting the cable.
An issue with hard start after over-night soak, regardless of temp, isn't fuel pump related.

agreed, starting up the sled isnt the fuelpump, the carb bowl is already full of gas, so the fuel pump doesnt change any of that. Its how the choke is adjusted and how fast its pulled over.
Like I said before if its really cold out and the sled sits, then pull the plugs and pull it over and release the 2 stroke oil as that will slow down how fast you pull it over, the slower you pull over the engine the less vacum the pistons make to draw in fuel from the carbs!
I almost always had to pull the plugs on my srx when I rode in the u.p and the sled sat out overnight, as most times my srx's always had more then stock compression and the cold oil being stiff would almost feel like you were gonna break the pull cord rope...lol, so just pulled plugs and whirled it over 10 times or so, always fired right up.
I of course also shut it off the night before with the choke, so the engine was primed, just needed to lossen up the oil first.

I guess thats the problem...seems like a lot of trouble to go through to get her started in the morning when its not the issue with the Viper, SX,Vmax or any other sleds out there....Why is the SRX causing so much problem for so many??

My 01 had been showing the hard start issues the past couple of times I used it so the last time out I choked it to stall it when I was done riding and today when I went to start it it fired up on like the fourth pull.Mind you I had adjusted my choke cable to open a bit more because it didn't seem like it was pulling full open and the temp was only like a couple of degrees below freezing,so not exactly frigid cold. But still I would definitely recommend using Mrviper700s method of using the choke.
