Ran perfect today.

Parked for 2 hours.

Started up for another ride... noticed quiet unknown whirring, hissing noise audible through intake box. Couldn't recall if that was normal.

Wouldn't go faster than 30mph after that.

?????

Compression tested good.

Sprayed carb cleaner all around intake, reeds, carbs while running to rule out a vacuum type leak... no change in idle.

For kicks, I pulled boost bottle and put a vacuum gauge on port for bottle. slow pulled recoil... (I've never heard of anyone doing this but was hoping it might tell me if reeds were bad or something)
clutch side consistently bounced up to 22
recoil side consistently bounced up to 17

I'm not sure what to make of this test...I've heard you can't reliable test reeds without removal. My 30 mph max symptoms only loosely match reed issues since is starts, idles, drives fine to 30(possible lower power to 30 but not much)

Any suggestions where to go from here???

I'm only slightly proficient with 2 strokes.

To be honest, I would have started to look into clutch issues if my vacuum gauge at boost bottle port test didn't show a difference between cylinders.

Thanks!

I had this happen to me on the trail On my 500 once. My throttle locked up on me and I broke it free. The out it would only go up to 30 or so. Brought it to the shop and they said that I dropped my carb slide. Fixed her and had been fine ever sense.

So, I was kind of disappointed that I didn't get more replies with some better advise since it's going to be perfect sledding conditions this weekend and she's only had one chance to ride her first sled so far.

I thought, "carb slide, really" thinking that would feel way more obvious.

I APOLOGIZE for the negative thoughts!!! It was the carb slide. 10 minute free fix that resolved my problem! WOOHOO!!

Srx500kid, THANK YOU.... you're a life saver!

Have you checked to see if both carb slides are lifting when you open the throttle? We had the screws come loose on the throttle linkage under the slide cover on one carburetor. The sled would act like one cylinder wasn't firing. You may have to remove the air box to see.

The loud air intake noise sounds like air trying to get past a lowered slide. When you open up the throttle one carb slide raises and the engine tries to rev but one side can't draw enough air because the slide is in the closed position. You need a 2.5 mm Allen wrench to tighten the screws.

This is only a suggestion but sounds a lot like what I experienced. Good luck.
