I went to start my 99 vmax 600 deluxe yesterday it was cold so I put on full choke and started to whirl it with the electric start it whirled and whirled and I thought it was going to start when kapow it back fired and blew the exhaust off and fired at the same time this isn't the first time this has done this I don't thing this is normal but the dealer where I had the carbs done this year said it is. I am new to sledding after a 35 year leave. is my dealer just shitting me or is this normal I know one thing when it backfired I almost shit myself it was that loud. good thing I had my helmet on.

I almost $hit myself it was that loud.
Kablamo
LOL:bump:LOL
Mine has done the same dang thing...pipe stayed on however..

WAY too much Gas/Vapors in the exhaust pipe.
The 2-Stroke Engine just pumped it right past the chambers....

If above zero degrees, It seems 1/2 choke is plenty....
Fresh Plugs will help it fire faster...
Should hit within say 5-6 revolutions ?

Now its not like this guys backfiring when running is it ?

had it to the local dealer this fall and had carbs cleaned, and clutches done been back 3 times still the same will not start on full throttle. it was -27 here yesterday and went out to see if it would start. it turned over on full choke and would not start. set it to half choke and it fired up I have run Yamaha bikes all my life and my friends with Yamaha sleds all say the same thing they are normally cold blooded and have to run with the choke on full for a while. don't know where to go next.

I meant to say it does not start on full choke. I had it in the shop over night with no heat on to install my heated visor hook up. went in and it started and ran no choke at all. go figure any advise would help thanks

floats may be stuck or need adjustments. also maybe reeds are bad!

had the fuel pump apart yesterday thought maybe there was dirt or curd in the check valves clean as a whistle guess this was a built in option on my sled

I am in Newfoundland and in our climate the 700 triples were way too rich on the pilots and required us to drop from 45 to 40's. The 600 triple comes with 42.5 try dropping to a 40 pilot and if too rich try a 37.5. With the 40 the fuel screws should be ok but if you drop to 37.5 you may have to turn them in an 1/8 of a turn or so. Reed spacers help in this engine also.

already have reed spaces in and drilled out the can works good and pulls hard just the back firing and I mean backfiring as you Newfs would say frightened the shit out of my bye. just joking good people in Newfoundland will try this
