My neighbor just bought a 700 Venture. We were out having a look at the belt today and I noticed a lot of back and forth free play on the secondary shaft. About 1/2 inch or more. Basically you can pull the secondary side to side about 1/2 inch. I'm not familiar with the 700's. I remember my old 91 Phazer having sme side to side movement but not sure if this is normal. I checked the secondary bolt and it is tight.
Its the way it should be keeps the belt aligned during shift.
Sounds like way too much, maybe pull your bolt, collar, and spacers for inspections. If all looks ok, reinstall and make sure everything fits properly, there are usually at least 2 washers with a larger ID that fit over the aluminum collar, and float on it between the clutch and the bolt washer.
All of the sleds I have worked on or owned are at about 1/16"-1/8" free play side to side.
