I have a 97 vmax 600 xtc ,I know the torque specs but my question is for the jugs is there a pattern you need to go by. like the head and the case patterns ????????

Probably wondering if they have nikisel coated cylinder walls

For you to be able to tell if your cylinders are nicasil or dispersion coated you will have to look carefully at the top of the cylinder, when you look you will see about a 1/4" away from the cylinder wall, you will notice a color change from a grey color to an aluminum color if your cylinders are of a sleeve type. Otherwise if you do not see this "signature" your cylinders should be of the nicasil or dispersion coating style. also just a FYI Yamaha has been dispersion coating cylinders since the late80's - early 90's, and, I understand that cylinders can be sleeved even though they are or should be a coated style cylinder from the factory. hope this sheds some light on what your are after.

Yes there is a torque pattern. Check in a service manual - available here or possibly online.
