New to site need input had my sxr since new. Have 4,300 miles on it some one ( ex) maybe put acetone or something in injector oil. Any way #3 cyl got really hot started to melt down but caught in time. Did damage to cyl an piston question is should go new cyl or are rebuilds cyl ok. Still have 120# in #1&2 cyl, pistons in those cyl look like new.

Quite a few experts on here that I'm sure will chime in but I would say yank the cylinder and check it out good. Maybe you caught it before it scored up the cylinder. Take pics and post em' if you can, that'll help alot. If it's not too bad, sometimes you can clean up the walls with muriatic acid to take the aluminum from the piston off. Check the classifieds on here for a used cylinder too. Check the rod bearings, and crank bearings for play also. When in doubt, change it out.

Injection oil tampering would have lead to some sort of damage/pre-mature wear to entire engine. I wouldn't be so sure that was the root cause if the rest of the engine is fine.

I had a 1990 KDX200 dirtbike before. I got the cylinder replated. I sold the bike to a buddy. He still runs it with that exact same replated cylinder. That was at least 10 years ago.

Thats kinda what I thought . The piston an cyl is toast had to make a puller to get wrist pin out. The piston got hot started to melt pulling alum from skirts intake side an exh side groved cylinder. I had afreind rebuild carbs last year cause it sat for year an found the carb boots loose. Other than that everything looks in good shape. I was thinking crank seal but I have good compression in #1&2 cyl an they look like new. No blow by

I like to figure out before I reassemble. Are reman cyl ok or should go oem. Going oem on all other parts,
.

Were carbs cleaned pre-season? Reman from a reputable company would be fine or pick up a good used one. Two years ago the girlfriend burnt down the center cylinder on my 00 SxR 700. Root cause of mine was a ripped tip of the needle that plugged the seat. I found a used cylinder and piston that was good as or better than the other two loacaly for $125. Which ever you go make sure its right (porting/decking work) before you put it all together.

Thanks for all input guess I'll buy a book on it an rebuilds carbs myself. There is a company on eBay that has replated cyl for 190.00 out of Wisconsin . Thanks

Theres how to write ups in the tech section...some even have pics, for free! You will find all the factory specs for all Yamaha sleds in the tech section too! Pick your favorite write up, print it off, go find your specs (fuel screws, jetting..etc) write them on your printed off cheat sheet and dive in.

You can get a good used one for less but either way will be fine. what's the company that replated the cyl. I'd check into their reputation before I bought it. There are some good reputable platers out there and there are some horror stories. Do your due diligence.

betheviper???I just broke my fan because something got sucked into it and broke all the blades,do you have this and how much? I saw you might have this fan and your inbox is full
