I have a 1999 sxr 700 that has had coolant issues for about two years. So I usually top it off with a cup of 50/50 before I leave my house. It has a small leak and drains over time. Well this time I did and the hose coming right off the cap of the cooling system blew off and steam every where. I went back home and put a clamp on it filled the system and tried bleeding it for a while. I put a lot in and can't see any leaks. I went to drive it to work some air out and the main coolant tube going to the cylinder head by the temp sensor blew right off. What would cause the coolant to over heat so quick a be blowing lines off? Could I have a blockage in the system that's not allowing it to flow? When I ran it and would take the cap off it was plenty hot but the heat exchangers weren't melting any snow it seemed. Any help would be appreciated thanks. -Shawn
not sure if this is the reason but im positive its supposed to be a 60/40 mix not 50/50
The mix ratio wouldnt cause the hoses to blow off, hopefully its not a blown head gasket....only thing I can think of that would cause enough pressure to do that.

Guessing one of the times it was low on coolant you did some head gasket damage and now compression is entering the coolant system. I suspect your radiator cap is faulty as well. Should let pressure out some where around 12-14 pounds. I suspect cap isn't releasing pressure and then blows hose off.

Your cooling system is more than likely, getting pressurized by a nick in the head gasket. It doesn't take a lot. Fixed one with High Tack once. The damage wasn't bad though.

x3 - you have cylinder pressure leaking into your coolant jacket - likely a head gasket issue.
easy way to check is to monitor pulses in the coolant system. You can check manually or borrow a coolant system pressure tester from Autozone (or similar).

Another sign is a bubbling overflow tank.

I put a old compression tester on and I'm only reading 90 pounds across the board. I took the coolant cap off. Filled the system and ran it and when I give it throttle the water bubbles right out the top but only when I give it throttle. I've checked my pressure last year when I had a issue and the pressure was fine. Although it would leak slowly over time. The over flow tank always seems to stay at the same point. It won't go up and it won't go down.

It's either a bad head gasket, or a bad water pump, that's what I would think if it were me.

Do your head gasket first. Might as well peal one layer out while your there. High-Tack it all and reinstall. Then your done with the Head Gasket mod.
