If my nephew snow plows through 18 inches of snow on my srx then the crankcase below the pto cylinder cracks open( i can see the crAnk)and all the coolant drains out, is it his fault?

More info needed. Was it 18" frozen hard bank that caused belly pan damage as well? If that's the scenario I say maybe. 18" of random snow out in a field some where? This scenario I say no. I plow threw snow all the time and haven't had any issue any where hear this.

It seemed to run great. Only problem I was having was fouling plugs on cold
Start. No problem warm starting. In fact I started killing it with choke, and that helped a lot. A
Very large piece of the crankcase blew off on the pto cylinder. The motor did not seize, but that cylinder was cold when I stopped. I was able to start and drive it twice to put it away. I cleaned the carbs, replaced orings on needle. It was bone stock. It was running fine, cruising around the backyard and lake. Was going about 25 mph and heard a metallic clunk, it bogged a little then another clunk and then the steam from coolant. The End.

usually see the piston skirt break off and fall into the case, then the counter weight jams it agents the case and makes a hole in it. post some pictures.

a little bit of snow blowing on the crankcase would never cause it to crack...or blow a chunk off. Unless it was given a good hit then something internal kicked the bucket.

Thanks. So engine just gave up. I don't think this one is worth fixing. Probably part it or sell it outright. Could it be because it's a 98. I've read here they have had crank issues. Sled has over 6000 miles. Figured it would last longer than that though.

maybe, but you said it still runs so i don't think it would be a crank. could of been your reed stoppers, mine were 2 cracks from letting go, and would have done the same to my engine. i had around the same mileage as you, now i check reeds when doing carbs.
