Well we finally got to scratch that itch that has been bugging me since August. Tried out the new Pioneer helix 53/45 today. Sled pulls like crazy. Only hitting 8300 on the rpms wot and 100 on the dream meter. I have a couple of things not in mu favor. New track being one of them. The rest of the setup is www primary 4.5 loaded 8dn-20s. Green spring in the rear at 70. I know I can get 100 more rpm if I drop down to 60 on the rear but in the powder I would suck the belt down to fast and lock down and not come back up. I wonder if I have to drop the helix down to a 43 finish or take a little weight out of the tip. But over all very happy.

I'd get a few more rides in before making any changes. Although that set-up is one of the more forgiving ones things still change from day to day conditions. get a good overall average.

twist to 80 as 3:16 mentioned...what is your engagement at? you could add a shim or two under the primary spring which would raise engagement and also raise wot rpm's.Possibly just going back to stock primary spring will raise the rpm's..some simple testing you can do and you should find the sweet spot.

Thanks for the info will try it at 80 and see what it does. I thought the tighter the wrap less top end you will get. Engagement is at 3800-4000. Not looking to go to much higher on that as I ride trails a lot.

Not a clutching expert by any stretch but, yes you will lose top end but by wrapping at 80 it'll raise your rpm's.( wrapping at 60 would lower your top rpm's) Not the "correct" way to tune but.... I'd say you need to take a little weight off of the tip to get your rpm's up. Why the www primary spring?

Clutch setup from MrViper. I know this is a starting point for a clutch setup and needs to be fine tuned. I need to run it a few more times before knowing everything about the setup. Worked great last year but like I said before I have a brand new track under it. That needs to brake in first before any major changes. Thank you everyone for your help. That's why I love this site.

a mere 200rpm off is likely just the conditions, i would leave it alone till you can run it again in differnt conditions.
BTW-if you dropped the sec to 60 wrap youll lose rpm, not gain it.
If you ride it again and your still 200 rpm off in the kind of conditons where you ride the most, then you would be correct, youd take a wee bit off the tips of the rivet heads. About 1/2 gram off each tip rivet to make them 4.0 gram rivets on the tips. 60-70 is where your gonna want to stay on the sec wrap if you want good topend out of it. Wet/ sticky snow you might have to go to 80 as it loads the clutchs more and makes them want to upshift faster and the increased wrap will help it backshift in the messy snow.

Mr. Viper, do you just drill a small portion of the head of each rivet? No problems on my end but just wondering how YOU do it

either grind the heads slightly or drill thru the rivet to lighten it if you need alot out of it.
you need a gram scale so you know where your at.

i totally disagree, 80 twist will not scuff mph off if that will get ya on target rpm. sled will actually be faster. now no don,t tune with secondary twist, but thats in range. 3:16 (yammie tony)
