I have a 2000 MM 700, stock except for the veri-flow carb adjusters. and it like to over rev to about 8800-9000. i have the correct weights and rivits for my attidude (1000ft) does anyone have any ideas?

For 1000' elevation you should have a 4.5 gram inner & a 3.1 outer rivet. An old belt will cause an overrev too.

and from what ive gathered my target RPM should be 8300-8500?

Sounds to me like you need a little more weight- heavier rivets. You are
correct on your target rpm. Like Turk said check belt width.

ok i'll throw a new belt on and see what happens. is there anyway to tell what rivits are in the weights after they have been installed in the weight? If not mabye i'll just rerivit it to be sure. also someone told that yamaha recomends a 23 tooth driver in the chaincase for my altitude. arent they set up from the factory with a 21? could i be getting to many RPM's from that?

Here is a pic of what the rivets look like.

My '01 MM700 came stock with 23/40 gearing but the previous owner
had a 21 upper installed. Worked great for deep powder and climbing
trees but when we got on a road everybody ran away from me. Just
put a 22 upper in and will see how I like it, I my end up going back to
stock.
Those 8 tooth drivers really lower the gear ratio.

ok i checked the weights and they are correct (8cr00) i looked at the rivites and from what i can tell they look correct (17.2 in, 13.9 out) i have the correct green secondary spring in, set at 70%, the primary spring is a yellow white yellow. if i measure my belt what should it be?

At that low of alt. you can drop secodary to 60 degree and do you know what helix you have?

ok i let it back down to 60% and it did not change, still revs right to 9000. the numbers on my helix are 8BV, 31, and 11 331. is this the stock helix? is spinin 9000 to much, will i hurt the motor?

Did you ever get the rpm's down?
The helix you listed is the stock helix.
What springs do you have in there, primary and secondary?

yeah! it's the weirdest thing. i was test driving it after changing the preload on the secondary (50%) and it was still overreving. on my way back to my garage i noticed that it starting miss firing on the middle cylinder and then at idle the center one was doing nothing. so i took the carbs off and and cleaned them. the piloit jet was plugged. so i got that all back togther and set my secondary back to 70%. (buy this time i had no clue what to do for my over reving). i went for a ride to make sure that it was running correctly again. it was and my overrev was gone. it now gos to 8500. the only thing i can think of is if i had somthing put togther wrong in the secondary and i just happen to get it right this time.
thanks for everyones help.
