I have been on 2 good trips with my Viper (about 120 miles each time) and it's working like a champ. The only thing that worries me is how little oil it takes. It is only dropping about 2 inches in the tank per trip. Just wondering if this is normal and what everyone else consumes for oil.

How much fuel did it use? Find a mix chart and see what 2 ounces by the x amount of fuel gives you for a ratio that its running at.

While idling the sled pull the oil pump arm WOT and it should smoke you out. If nothing pull the pump off and make sure the key/coupler isnt stripped/rounded out. Im not sure if its the same type of pump that my 97 mm twin uses though

viper are known to run on oïl fumes, they are reeeeal good on oïl, one of the best don't worry

Just for info. I ran an entire tank of gas 47L (12 Gallons) last Sunday on the viper and needed to put Just over 1L of oil (36oz) to fill it back up. With some rough calculations i think that's 44:1. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's what Yamaha specifies.

My Viper mixes at 55:1 and my 600 Vmax dlx mixes at 45:1. Both oil pump cables are at the standard factory setting so I just assumed less oil keeps the exhaust valves from gumming up.

P.S. the Viper with 4,000 miles still has cross-hatching on the cylinders (as seen with the head removed). So 55:1 seems good to me and that's running Yamalube exclusively.
