Hello
Me and my father bought a 1988 phazer that hadnt run in two years. It started and ran for a little bit but seemed like it was laboring a lot and would shut off and not start back up, and you would have to wait for 20 mins then it would run again. One day it started leaking gas out the y pipe so I knew there was an issue in the fuel system. I drained the tank and cleaned the carbs, adjusted the air pilot screws and it ran great afterwards, idling and running fine. The problem is when you give it gas it sounds great till about 4500 rpms where it bogs/seems like its laboring and it doesnt want to go any higher. There is also an issue with the primary clutch. The sled idles fine but it engages a little over 1800 rpms. My other 1988 doesnt engage until almost twice that. Could the primary spring be worn out? The belt may be wrong size too, i will try with a belt i know is oem. It will not disengage either, you have to apply the brake and gas at the same time when coming to a stop just to stop it from keep moving. Sometimes when you go to start it it even spins the track while pulling. Please help! Any ideas what the issues could be?

My buddy just had the same problem with his 91 phazer. Had the carbs and clutches apart about 20 times. Couldn't fig it out and it Ended up being a mouse nest in the airbox

make sure that the 2 small black plug's are in both carb's.turn the fuel/mix screw is turned 2 turn's out.take both clutch's off & clean them up.especially the 2nd clutch & check helix buttons. set at b-2 that's 60 deg.i think the phazer run's at 7-g's.thay r a fun little sled.

Sounds like the primary clutch is binding, not releasing. Chances are the bushings and sliders in the primary are shot and cocking the movable sheave. Could be a weak spring as well. Get that fixed then you can work on the other issues.
