Have a 02 srx 700 and the tach is not working. Last season the needle would just bounce back and fourth, but this year it's not working at all. All the rest of the gages and ligts work fine. Just tried installing EGT gages on it and was ubable to find a pulse for the tech wire, (tried checking the wires in the front of the machine). I tested that gages on another machine and know that it's not the EGT. Has anyone had experience with this type of problem. Pinched wire? Another question is does the 02 have a cdi box like the older style srx? unfortunatley I don't have a wiring diagram for the machine and don't know where the wires come behind the motor, (by the airbox). PLEASE HELP!!

I have this guys problem and needs, any help? mine is a 00' mtn max
Check the wiring harness where it goes down under the motor. Unhook the harness in the front and tie a string to it so that you can pull it back by the carbs. They rub thru the wires and cause problems like this.
I have a 98srx700 with the same problem. I changed the wire harness(with a new one) and still no tach. Although it does work sometimes. Sometimes it will only go to 4000 rpms and no farther. Sometimes it will work once it gets going. Just decided to run it.
