Hi All,

I want to install some cable style ice scratchers I bought. I run a lot on a lake, and while it doesn't overheat, I'm sure it's running hotter than I'd like. I was told to remove an idler wheel and install them using those holes, but I'm very reluctant to do this. I figure if Yamaha put two wheels up front on each side, they must think it was needed. I'm also nervous to add another hole in the rail, in terms of weakening it. What's the thinking on this? Or how to mount in general.

I did a search on ice scratchers to see if I could find something on a cable version install, but wasn't lucky in finding anything.

Thanks!

I think mr. Sled dis a post somewhere showing how he mouted a set of these to the inside of the skis.. balieve he fabbed a simple mounting bracket... came out rather well and would solve ur issue of adding holes/removing wheels

Really? I would love them on the skis. I searched and couldn't find anything. I'll try again...thanks

Seems like I seen a thread were a guy picked up some parts from a local farm/fleet store for his inside the ski scratcher install. The parts were designed to be for some sort of rake to be drug behind a tractor. Came with several tines with a looped/coiled sections that he cut apart. A washer inside and out of looped coil section on the horizontal saddle bolt. Short end stayed on front of ski and long end would ride on ski while not in use.

I am having issue's with copy and paste. For what ever reason something is stuck in the paste box and isn't adding new link. The thread I was talking about title is "$3 Ice Scratcher" by Yamahasrx700......Even after I found it I have ben challenged to re-find it. Seems like same search keeps giving different results. The next time I find it I will post on it bring it back to the top....watch for it.

Devilin, thanks! I looked it over. I've already bought the cable scratchers last year though, so I have them...Might as well find a way to use 'em. I'd love to see that stuff by MrSled.

Thanks for that. That's where I was thinking of mounting them. How long have you had them there? I was just wondering if the metal was strong enough once drilled to withstand the torque of those things bouncing around all the time. I don't want to weaken the rail.

I did check on the proaction skid and you can mount them infront of the front wheel. the rails dont go in far enough for them to hit when its bottomed out up front. They work great. I would say DONT take any wheels out though... PM me if you have more questions. I have done this to multiple sleds.

Not following that part. In front vs behind the second wheel sounds better though. I'm just thinking that if they are too far back you aren't getting good lube on the hyfax toward the front.

I was worried about the rails going up into the tunnel too far when bottomed out but there is room.
On a standard skid in front of the wheels would be better. I have the low snow wheels so there isnt room. Not sure about hooking them out of the way either. They shoudl be hooked when loading on the trailer!
