What is the purpose of the large steel sheave plates on the outside of the secondary clutch? Why do some sleds not have them?

they are for windage, or to reduce the drag of the secondary clutch by the vanes on the side. it also reduces the negative pressure created to the pto carb from the clutch spinning like a fan by it..
they are usually found on the higher performance models and not used on the lower output sleds.
The sec clutch will run a little bit cooler without them on.

Thanks, I wondered why my V-Max didn't have them. I thought maybe they were to help hold the pieces together if the clutch exploded.
