Put motor back together thanks to betheviper. Now while cleaning carbs #1carb pilot was back out 1.5 turns an #2&3 were back out 2 1/4 turns . Could that contribute to a lean burn on those cylinders?

I'm going to assume you're talking about the fuel screws. Little more fuel at idle. How are the inlet (tophat) screens? A clogged one of those could cause a serious problem. Crank seals OK?

i burned my # 2 piston when the fuel screw was tightened all the way. # 1 & # 3 carbs were at 2 1/4. that was two winters ago. i had some else work on my redhead. there was some popping during that day before there was a lean burn down that day. the rings burned that day. the bottom part of the piston wall was burned. seized the engine out in middle of nowhere.

I did a search for "top hat filters" using the 'forum search' at the top right. This will get you started. FYI, the search feature has tons of info. Use it like a search engine.
