Hello,

I've read the belt deflection post and am wondering if this is my problem. At idle, there's no noise. But, rev up to just before the clutch engages and there'a a squeel. I changed my belt last season, but there was no noise until my last ride. Belt deflection or something else? How do I fix? And is it safe to take a ride as is?

Thanks,

-Jon

Where does your belt sit on the secondary?
Clean your clutch surfaces and belt with hot soapy water and a scotch brite pad.
If that doesnt work, check your offset.

On my '02 MM 700 it does the same ting. I checked the sheave offset at the local dealer and is fine.( the offset is 15mm +/- 1.5mm from drive clutch to driven clutch) Yours maybe different but the info will be on the tag on the clutch guard(sheave offset). He suggested to pull the secondary and on the back there are three bolts, take them out and remove the spacer. I think my problem is the belt is too tight. By doing this the belt will sit a little lower in the secondary, and hopefully eliminate the squeeling.

a little bit of belt squeel isn't really a bad thing as long as your center to center and offset are within spec, but if it really bothers you that much you can take the spacers off of the adjustment bolts on the back of the secondary to give the belt a little more deflection, and that should eliminate your squeeling. The 8DN seems to squeel though when it is adjusted to the tighter end of the spec, maybe because it is so stiff of a compound

my belt squeeled last season after adjusting clutches but it went away by the end of the season. Put a new belt this week and the squeel is back.
My clutches are aligned within specs. My belt hight on the secondary is 1.4 so I may remove a washer.
Never had any problem with leaving it that way.
