Anyone out there mount Nytro shocks & Viper arms/spindles on 1998 MSRX?? I'm planning to swap in a Nytro 153 skid/track...so might need some lift. Thoughts?

You will need some lift if you don't want the front end nose diving every time you let off the gas. I put xtc shocks in my back suspension and installed drop brackets and had a real problem with that. Right now I have a set of shocks off a 2002 rmk (got them cheap) on the front and it works pretty good, lifted my front so my belly is about 9-10 inches off the ground. I tried a set of rx1 shocks on the front a couple years ago that were 17 1/2" centre to centre and that was just too much. They might be good if you set up the sled for strictly mtn riding, it really raised the front and narrowed the stance. Couldn't hook up the sway bar with those on. But for boondocking it was just too much. You should be good if you find a set of shocks anywhere from 14 1/2" to 16" center to center long. Another thing I did was put a spacer between my steering rods and where they mount on the spindles when I raised the front end so when you are airborn the steering rods wouldn't hit the bottom of the hole where they go through the bulkhead. Thought they might eventually get bent and throw off your steering if they kept hitting bottom like that.

Here's a couple pics, the last one shows the Rx1 shocks which I took off now, but I added it to show the spacers I put on the steering arms

Wow...the RX1shocks really stood it up...but as your post mentions, the 17.5" c-t-c measurements will cause me grief....which is the exact measurement of the Nytro shocks I have coming. I thought maybe the Viper arms will work due to the extra shock length. I've seen some posts of some that used the setup, but some of them also used different transfer rods also. ...slightly confused until I start the R&R, then I may have to sharpen my Tig Welding skills.

shocks up to 16 1/2" are the longest I would go without widening the front end. Ive got a set of rydefx ones off an rmk and thats what they are. Dont go to long with the spacer because the stress and extra leverage will bend or break the bolt. Next year im gona get some shocks off of a phazer. They are 15.5-15.9" and work real good.

I appreciate the info!! I've been using this site for years, and finally registered not long ago. Great page for the die hard SRX fans out there.

So the 15.5"(ish) shocks are enough lift for the 153 skid you think? I can always re-sell the Nytro shocks

If they arent you can flip you brackets to get you about another inch but it should be enough.

I suppose going too high will also make it a bit "tippy" if your trail rippin' .... Thx for the info!!

Devinzz1 pretty much covered everything, and he is right about not making the spacer too high. Mine is actually 1 1/4 inches but you can get away with 3/4 inch. Been meaning to take mine off and cutting them down, less stress on the linkage.
