Well I decided to tear into the SRX last night in hopes of finding out why it gave me such grief the last time I went to start it.Didn't really find anything that jumped out at me but this is what I did.
Cleaned the carbs COMPLETELY,pulled the choke plungers out and the whole works.Float bowls were full too when I removed the carbs because I had to drain them.
Went through the venting for the fuel tank, blew air through all the lines to make sure there was no obstructions.
Check wiring for rub throughs or breaks.
As I said I didn't find anything out of the ordinary but after I got everything back together tonight I started it up and with the carbs bone dry it started in 11 pulls, which wasn't bad considering but the sled also sat in my heated shed for 2 days too so the real test will be after this damned weather passes and cools back off.Once it gets below freezing again will be the tale I guess, about the only thing I forgot to do was put some isopropyl in the tank in case there's any residual water in there.
I noticed one thing with the tank venting that was different from my 98 was how the end of the vent tube ended. My 98's vent tube just hangs down by the foot rest where the 01 has its end stuck on a tube welded into the CDI mount bracket.I used compressed air to blow any debris out of that tube, just in case, and debated on letting it hang like my 98 but put it back on the tube.If the hard start issue comes up again I may just pull that vent hose off the tube and let it hang to see if there's any difference.
One of the things mentioned in one of the threads about hard starting SRX was someone wondering if the gas was draining back out of the float bowls and I can say that at least mine were full when I took the drain plugs out of them so the gas had not drain out or evaporated from them.
The thing that bugged me about the problems I had the last time out was once the sled was running it never missed a click the rest of the day

Yeah, let us know how it starts when the temps drop. How does your 98 start compared to the 01?

Well it doesn't seen to be exhibiting the same hard start issues,I went for a ride on Friday night that just passed and the sled had been sitting for 6 days on my trailer.I had fueled it up before I trailered to our unload area, about a 10 mile drive, and it started on the 6th pull which is about average for that sled.Just to note I also tried to start the 01 just for kicks and pulled it about 10 or 11 times and not so much as a sputter.

I was out working in my shed tonight and just before I headed into the house I figured I'd start the 01,or at least see how many pulls it took, and it only took 5.Mind you this was in a warm shed and it has been running on Tuesday night so not much of a test really but it looks like I'm going to have to wait til about Saturday night or Sunday before the temps cool off.Of course we don't have snow enough to ride now so I'm going to be waiting for a while to do that again.
