I have recenctly purchased a sxr 700 2001. I went riding and it seems to act up once in a while. From a dead stop if I pin it it seems like it hits about 7500 rpms and that's it kinda acts doggy if I. Feather the throttle a couple times takes right off and runs perfect. Also does it coming out of corners once in a while.. anyone have any suggestions? Just had all the carbs serviced at the local yamaha dealer.and has a new belt? What's weird is it only does it once in awhile not every time? Please help! Thanx!

Does it seem to act like it's hitting the rev limiter? If so take off the starter cup and clean the flywheel it likely has some rust on it and is not picking up properly.
what plugs are you running? I have found the standard plugs tend to foul out or miss sometimes, I run Br9eya's and never had a problem again

This wouldn't have anything to do with the TORS acting up right?

It doesn't seem to be hitting the rev limiter I put a different belt on this weekend and it still does the same thing...it seems like the secondary is sticking slightly as it does it the most when I start from a dead stop and pin it if I ease into it and then pin it at about 40 it seems to be better..can I possibly change the secondary settings? What is the stock settings?

What is the tors?
Throttle Over Ride System. Designed to limit RPM if it sense a stuck carb due to icing etc. Typically a throttle cable to tight issue triggering it. Search TORS..should be ALOT of detailed threads.

have you had it in a heated garage since running it? mine does that when the carbs ice up
Buddy's srx 700 was just doing the same thing off and on. Carbs, power valves and reeds cleaned. It was the tors! He had tightened the throttle cable to much when he was trying to figure it out. Loosened cable and no more problems.

back to the tors, bypass it. my friends was doing that, even after we loosened the throttle cable. it was the switch in the throttle block had gone bad and was sticking.
