Does any one know exactly where the Fuel gauge wiring goes? The meter would go from half to empty a few times, now it wont show anything at all... I think it would be a rub thrue, possibly under the engine? I remember my 01 had rub thrue there but it was the headlights that were all messed up...

Its going to be in the main harness. From the sending unit on the tank to the main harness under the motor up to the front of the hood and then back up to gauge pods. Everything else working like it should? Other than the recoil?

The only other problem I have is the grip warmers, the thumb is working fine, but the grips don't work at all... I was going to bypass one grip at a time to check if its that... then I was going to switch the grip switch to the thumb warm switch to see if that gets it going... if not, it must be a broken wire....

My viper started doing this a few weeks back. Goes from half tank to the warning light coming on. If i shut the sled off and start it again sometimes it will work fine then for a bit. Seems like the top half of the tank works great but once its past half anything can happen.

sounds like the sending unit is worn out. kirkswim had that happen on his 02 viper and sapling killer had it happen on his war as well.

Could this happen because I let it sit dry all summer. I often wonder if there is any negative effects from doing that. Tank, pump, lines carbs, all dry all summer...

Eric, I think I have a SRX tank kicking around here if you want a used sending unit. Ill give you a deal since i hijacked your thread. :)

I think it wears out in the middle because that is where it spends the most time while riding or even sitting. the ones that where replaced I took apart and all the wire was worn out in the middle position on both of them.
