I am a bit new here but I am attempting to add both an Electric Start and Reverse to my 2003 SX 700 Viper. I would like to know if this is possible and what parts are required to perform the upgrade.

Thanks to all,

You will need to find a complete reverse kit of eBay. It will include a new cover, bottom gear assemblies, reverse counter gear assembley and shaft and the linkage for the handle. Parts install will be straight forward. Bottom gear for the reverse kit will be 39t so you may have to change your top gear and/or chain length to keep your current gear ratio.

Here is a step by step of the parts installation. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?94637-Reverse-Chain-Case-Re-install-with-Pics just make sure you get all the parts in the kit. It could get a little pricey to pick up any missing oem bits and pieces.

As far as an electric start kit, hopefully someone with more info can chime in but the primary does have to come off to bolt on the ring gear. To install the starter motor the pipe and manifold has to come off, the fwd motor mounts have to get unbolted and the rear ones loosened to rock the engine back to get the motor in down low.

Yes for sure both are a easy install and well worth it. For reverse you need the reverse cover and all the guts. e start you need ring gear, starter, and relay harness. all parts listed in these links.

Reverse: This is for a different style proaction but all the same install. http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles/aaTECH/Reverse/NonRX1install.htm

PS welcome to the site!! Tons of good info to be found, post a wanted add in classifieds for these items also.

as stated above on kits be sure to check parts listed to make sure they contain every part on fiche.as to mounting starter you wont need to remove manifold.but removing right front motor mount plate will make for easier access.only tricky part is routing cable behind reverse .I ran cable over pull start and down across front of motor to eliminate problem of rub going under motor.done 2 vipers both kits 1 02 1 04 also 97 vmax.years ago no problems to date.also wiring for beeper is in harness already you may have to change plug on beeper as the y are different on some of mine I have.male to female or female to male.why who knows colours vary also.as to starter using 1/4" ratchet and 10mm socket will help a lot.these people on here will help if you run into problems.
