Buddy's sled is ready and he's going to pick it up.
I just knew it wasn't coils or caps, and have been saying it's a classic example of a tors issue since I finally witnessed it acting up firsthand when we loaded it.
$385 later and I'll give you 3 guesses as to what it ended up being.....

$400 on coils??? I got all 3 for $100 (kimpex)
Nope. Not the CDI.
Nope on the coils too. Lucky for him I was persistent and a real PITA about it and talked him out of buying them. Around $90/ea from Yamaha. Never thought of Kimpex.
I've never seen it act up before we loaded it up that day.
When he started it, it popped, and backfired and missed and wouldn't rev past about 3000, and didn't seem like it was even hitting on all 3. Cleared up for a second under 3000, and same thing again as soon as he touched the throttle. I told they would hit him for $300-$400 and it was just going to be a $40 switch. Just buy that, and if it's not that, then we at least have one if either of us ever need it in a pinch.
No dice.
So.....They hit him with diagnostic time, and a TORS switch. They also talked him into a carb clean which I'm glad he went for, but he walked away just shy of $400 lighter in the wallet when it should have only been a $40 deal. Well, at least he got his carbs cleaned I guess.
I wish there was a light that would flash when there was a TORS issue like on my Exciters. Maybe he would have listened to me? Would have saved him $300+, 80 miles round trip twice, and missing almost a month of open trails. Well, at least he didn't buy new coils for nothing I guess.
