Hey guys', I have a '97 MM 700 redhead and it's doing something funky.I started it from summer storage and was revving up the motor a bit and the tors kept kicking in making the engine do its thing when the tor is active. Also when I rode the sled the motor sounds like its missing one cyl. running on 2 'cause its boggy, then it'll pop out the exhaust,it'll do this until I goose the throttle,it seems like it pulls hard thru the rpms, just keeps cutting out at idle and part throttle.I recently replaced the cdi unit, wondering if this might be the culpert or just go into the carbs and clean them out and check. It just sounds more electrical than a fuel problem.Any help?

I'd suggest a carb cleaning and ensure the thottle cable is adjusted with enough slack. You're probably tetoring on the tight side now and your pilots are plugged. It's nearly a given you'll need to pull and clean the carbs before the first ride.

Yes for sure that seems to always be the culpirt.I noticed that the new plug caps are sure loose when they go on the plugs, some have a definate CLICK when pressed on,should a guy change these? The spark has no where to go but the plug even if they fit loosely?

I haven't had an issue with the original plug caps on my '01 but if they're loose fitting, changing them might prevent them working loose in which case the spark will find another path... eventually through the coil housing.
