Hello all
I have a 98 srx 600 it runs ok for a little while then it Boggs out. If you let off throttle sometimes it will stay running but if it dies. It will not start again unless the choke is on. I can ride it around the yard for 5 -10 mins and it runs great but every time I try and go for a real ride. It ends up with me trying to limp it back home.
I have so far replaced the power valves with repaired valves from someone on here. Replaced the servo motor and cdi box. Finally got the valves all working. I have cleaned the carbs did continuity checks on all the wires and resistance checked the components that I could find values for in the service manual. I disabled the tors switch last night and it still same thing. Me limping it back to the garage. Compression on the two outside cylinders was 120 center was a little lower around 115.
I pulled the thermostat to test it cause It seems like a possible over heat issue the temp gauge doesn't come on other than the three flashes at start up witch is normal from my understanding. The running board coolers get warm but the radiator cap never gets hot and even after its cooled off seems to be a little pressure in the coolant tank. Its not blowing coolant out of the over flow. Is a little pressure normal bad head gaskets crank seals?
We finally have decent snow and the lake is froze I'm stuck in the garage.
Thanks

When did it start running like this? Have you replaced the in tank fuel filter? How old is the gas? My buddies sled was acting up, turned out to be water in the gas, it would get pumped into the fuel pump then freeze up. Cleaned the carbs, fuel pump and tank and ran good after that. Sounds like a fuel system problem to me.

Sounds like bad gas. When you drain the tank make sure u get every last bit of gas out of there, and make sure you get all the gas out of the lines, pump and carbs too. Once I siphon the gas out I'll throw some clean shop rags in the tank to mop up every last bit.

Thanks shaggy
I drained the gas pulled fuel lines and bled fuel pump dry. I pulled the tank found the fuel filter was broke. so I'm guessing it didn't have weight to stay at the bottom of tank. Was flopping around sucking air not sure that is possible with 7/8 of tank of gas. So possibly was bad gas may never really know I'm going for combination of the two. I just wish the store I normally try to get sled gas at would leave there pumps on for cards after closing. I want to ride more tonight but only put about 5 gals in and pretty much ran that out. I don't trust the other stations gas.
To think I finally got the srx I always wanted and after all the trouble with the power valves this fall. I really was ready to give up after this deal. After these simple fixes I over looked.
Thanks again

Glad to help!
Yepp, first thing I thought was fuel also... Had an old Chaparral that ran the same, found the fuel pick up was clogged. Enough fuel would flow to fill the carb bowls while idling, but when riding, it couldnt keep up and would run the bowls out of fuel. Enjoy the sled, glad you got it figured out!
