Hello everyone.
I'm pretty certain I have a bad stator on my 02 srx that just turned 11K miles but not ruling out the harness rub through from reading thru past posts. With my sled at 11K miles, I just went ahead and purchased the stator as they're a ton cheaper now. $167 at partzilla.com. Can you guys confirm that when tyoically replacing the stator you just need to order the stator assembly, in this case 8EK-81410-10-00 and not the $500 rotor. : )
History - my srx's tach backlight started blinking last year, totally random, not related to applying brake. Next, gas gauge stopped working last week. Next, noticed it took an extra pull or two to start this weekend, sled just sounded completly dead when pulling over. Next, lost power on trail, limped home 10 miles with sled backfiring, sled sounded like a 4 stroke generator : ) Assumed to be running on 2 cylinders.
Thoughts?
Thanks.

The rotor shouldn't go bad unless the magnets are cracked. It also just sounds like an electrical problem. Stator? I dont know. Check ALL of your connections especially your grounds.
Check into the tors switch being a problem.
These sleds are getting old so it may take some time to find the problem.

doubt highly the flywheel is bad.
I have had to fix the harness on 02 srx as well before for wire chafs. they do(02 srx only) come with a bracket to hold the harness but seem to rub thru under the engine still, you wont be able to pull it up and back as easily as the older ones. another place is over at the cdi box/footwell area and up that side of the gastank, check there too.

Mechanic found spark plug electrode bent so no gap. : ( Plugs have been in there for 200+ miles this winterr.
Right now, no idea if previous electrical problem related to this new issue. Hopefully not a crank goign bad. Just had new rings put in her 2 years ago. DCS light never came on so cant imagein its detonation related. Hopeing maybe a broken reed valve or carbon came loose. Reeds are original w 11K miles.
Will be checkign piston and compression later.
Thoughts?

Upon further investiation, my mechanic friend found cylinder scored and broken skirt. Being a 2002 srx with the detonation system, Im surprised my dcs light didnt come on? I was also running good fuel with racing fuel mixed in. Pretty frustrating and now to decide whether to repair? : ( How can I be certain not lower end related? Pistons were original w 11K miles and had new rings done at 9K.
what to do?

that happens when the pistons are worn and they rock back and forth in the bore, the skirts break off. I know you siad you put rings in it at 9000 miles, well thats about 3 times longer then it needed them to keep from wearing the skirts on the pistons. If it didnt bust the bottom of the case its worth fixing it, sounds like all you need is a used cylinder, piston.
If it was my sled, i would pull the engine out and put crank seals in it, and 3 new yamaha pistons rings, put it back in and it will run for another long time.
