Hey we have a 2000 mm 700 with SLP pipes on it. It seems to overheat a lot, triggering the light. Just curious do a lot of other people have this problem. Like within minutes of driving down a trail it will flash. Also noticed that the pipes are very close to the sensor on the head, could this be giving a guy false readings? Thanks

Check and make sure you are not injecting air into the cooling system. Common to have a head warping problem or a weak head gasket. If the head is warped simply mill flat up to .020.
It flashes or just comes on and stays,

It comes on and stays on. If you dip into some nice deep snow it goes out but for whatever reason my dad seems to feel the need to buy mountain sleds to ride trails. He lent it to one of his friends who drove it for an extended period of time with 'this red light on' so I assume if that temp sensor is accurate I will be seeing some carnage when I go check it out.

Was anything done to this sled just prior to the overheating issue?
air in the system or bad water pump, start eliminating the issues ,one at a time!

I never trigger the overheat light on the 20 miles in and out of the last big ride I did last spring. Had ice scratchers down the whole time and the snow was very minimal. It would be steaming a little bit but never too hot to put your hand on the heat exchangers. Is there something bound up in the driveline that is overloading the motor?

when my sled repeatedly over heats after i change the antifreeze.
there must be an air block bubble in there some where.
i lift the skis onto a block or drive up a snow bank so the front of the sled is higher.
air bubbles rise to the front of the sled out to the rad cap they go.
be very very careful.

On second thought about it, could you have a collapsed hose somewhere that is restricting circulation?

You are running it w/ a snow flap right? Just keepin it simple for now.
