Based on what I've read here, I bought an RX-1 helix with the best intentions of throwing it in and seeing what happens.
Despite my best intentions, I never got around to putting it in. Also, despite all our snow, I haven't found the time to get out on the trails much this year either. Between the flu, and Hockey, and it's been so damn cold most of the winter and my riding buddy just got his sled back from the dealer. His schedule is more hectic than mine. I've only been out a few times, and haven't even burned through a full tank yet. I've spent more time lurking around here and getting the thing ready to ride, than actually riding it, lol
Also, I wanted to get out a few more times before the helix swap so I could make a good comparison between the two when I finally do.
The machine is stock with without the gasket mod, or gearing change. Not even any studs. Realistically, what am I looking at for performance changes when I finally do get around to it? There's so much snow, there isn't anything even close to hardpack either. Without the gearing change, and hardpack, will I even notice any difference? Would I be wasting my time without doing anything else to it?
Thanks,
~G.D.

With out doing pri work will not get full benefit. What will be gained is more pull on low end. Assuming all stock? Your helix is a 45* the 8bv is 48-42.

I wouldn't mind more useable low end pull provided it doesn't facilitate much more instantaneous track spin when you get on the pipe hard. I get enough of that already. Pretty much why I'm reluctant to do the re-gear as I would assume that would make it worse.
I did a set-up on one of mine of turk rec. (RIP)
8df 4.5 3.6 tip y-g-y
51/43 pioneer helix Green at 60*
I love it it pulls great stock exhaust

Thanks. I have the Turk specs saved in my to do folder.
In reading what he wrote over a few locations, he called out the Apex/RX-1 as a 51/43, which is why I got one, but other places, including this thread it's 48/42. Should I ditch the one I have and look to Pioneer, or is there something decent I can get accomplished with the one I have?
I go corner to corner in mostly tight, WI trails. I ride it just like a dirt bike. Go in a little hot, stab the brakes to upset the chassis, lean, plant the front and punch it by apex. Aside from blasting across fields, very little sustained WOT.
I guess I use most of it, but not all. I don't think aside from a rare trip to the lake that I've ever looked down and seen much more than 80 on the dream meter across a field.
In reality, the stock clutching is probably fine, but we're all greedy and we want more. Any Suggestions?

Change your weight placement in pri. And run that helix should be fine. May over rev a little. Set up as what you found youll be happy.
