Hey guys I need some more help gettin the 500 dialed in i went with the vmax john set up i bought a new stock spring white pink white for the primary and put the 8 ab weights in it with the 2.4 gram weights in both holes has a new belt the one that replaced the 8cj my issue is the sled engages at 5000 rpms! kinda alot isnt it? i dont believe it has engagement shims on the primary bolt what should i do? would the old stock spring be weaker and engage at less rpms? i did not get the after market helix either im running it at 6-1 with a new secondary stock red spring as well just seems to be reving high

Engagement shims go in with the primary spring. I am no expert but I think they raise engagement by stiffening spring up. You might have too much heel/lowest hole weight. You used all the parts in the primary that he did? Some stuff he left stock and it might not match what was in your clutch factory.

clutch is factory i only changed the weights and the spring i put in the 8 abs and the 2.4 gram rivets in both holes it says he used 3 shims would that make it engage at lower rpms? or if i put the old spring back in because would most likely be softer with 8000 miles on it?? it just seems to run really high rpms at engagement

put the old spring back in fixed the problem I went from engaging at 5000 to engagement at 3600 and smooth! runs much better this way the new spring was probably a little bit more than a 1/4" longer and much stiffer

What year sled is this? What are the odds you got the w-p-w for the tall clutch cover and you have the short cover. I have had the short cover version in a 500 with the short cover and those weights and engagement was under 4000 rpm.

its a 98 vmax 500 xtc its a tall spring i measured it and it is the tall wpw i was so excited when i got all the new parts i never thought to compare the size or measure it i saw the marks on the spring and stuck it in and it doesnt like it at all lol ill have to exchange it i hope the short one will operate properly granted the old one seems to work just fine

Great, I like it when I'm right once in awhile. Good luck.
