hello new here and would like some advise. bought a 97 vmax xtc 600. when I bought it two days ago it ran like it had a DEAD CYLINDER. the previous owner said it was bad gas. well it turned out to be one of the carbs was not opening . so I fixed that . did a compression test 100 each cylinder. im thinking the fuel pump or maybe water in the gas. I have a few questions ? are these cylinders bore-able? whats the compresion for the 600?is there a way to test a fuel pump?

Welcome Scott. Since both cylidners are the same you may not have any large damage but given your guesses, I'd recommend the following.
Drain the fuel and put it in your car
Clean your carbs as described in the tech section - Mr. Viper carb clean 101 (note jet/pilot sizes and fuel screw openings)
Check carb boots, crank seal, reeds for cracks/chips/leaks
Check the oil tank level and mark it
Add fresh fuel in the tank and a few drops in the plug holes or premix if you have it
Start it, let it warm, post some pics of your plugs and sled and report back
Correct/enough fuel delivery is critical for a 2 stroke to survive which is why the focus above is at the carbs. It's got to be done before you ride it.
Twin owners here will pipe in with other suggestions and answers to your questions.

if you have access to a mitevac pump you would I think be able to simulate vacuum.pull crankcase supply line from fuel pump hookup mitevac using a line the same size to fp .then remove lines out too carbs.I think if you pump and release mitevac quickly you may be able to simulate pulse needed.then watch fuel out to carbs.you should see fuel pumping out to carbs.be sure to catch fuel in container.hope that works for you.pump release pump release repeat it will not work with one pump release you need to do it several times to simulate pulse signal form crankcase

still not running????? starts warms up the drops a cylinder???any help please, draining the tank again.it backfires too.
. I've been messing with a 99 vmax 500 acting the sane way. One side seems to be starved for fuel and I can't figure out why. Carbs off a couple times. Runs great then looses power then screams back to life. Sometimes idles on one cylinder. Clutch side plug white and clean. Any help is appreciated.

Is the spark to that cylinder cutting out? Plug caps good? Backfiring is usually a lean fuel condition. Filters under the inlet needles clean? Pilots spotless? Like snomofo said, spray around boots etc. any air leaks?

ok update , took a look inside the tank, the fuel filter came off the end of the line so my pump was picking up tank crap from a 16 year old sled. drained tank completely, going to clean fuel pump and carbs again. ( done this so many times this week , i think I could do it blind folded) aqnd where is this " Filters under the inlet needles" on a 600 twin

You got me thinking. Schematic is not showing the screens like on the triples. One less thing to check atleast.
