What do I need to do to remove the engine out of my srx? Looking for tips and advice. I blew a piston, and to replace that and get the cylinder replated I'm lookin at around $500. So I've decided to buy my brothers engine for $850 and just drop it in. Any tips or advice on this procedure would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

only need a clutch puller ...and some time ...remove air box and carb ,exhaust ,all power valve ,disconnect all the wiring and coolant hose remove pull crank ...remove bolt that hold the torque arm, remove the 6 motor mount bolts ...raise the engine ,remove the rear support to get access to the oil cable ..and u can remove the lower coolant hose at same time .....must be it

X2. While you have it out give the harness a good looking over for possible future rub threws. Seems like you could pick up a good used piston/cylinder for much less than $500.

Agreed,if you look around a used cylinder and piston/rings shouldn't run you much more than a couple hundred dollars. The only gaskets you might need to buy would be the water rail ones and even then only if you wanted to.I've used silicon there in the past without any issues and your head and cylinder o rings should be reusable.
As far as tools the only thing you'll need to get the engine out is a clutch puller but if you want to put your ignition on the other engine you'll need a flywheel puller.A little tip I pick up years ago for catching the antifreeze too is once you have the exhaust off and are at the stage you need to drain the coolant use the hose that runs to the mag side carb heater, snake it out through the the frame along side the recoil and drop it out through the exhaust outlet hole. The hose isn't quite long enough to go out through the hole all that far but as long as you have a drain pan or shallow bucket under there you'll catch 95% of the coolant.

Ok thanks for all the instructions guys. Already drained the coolant and made a mess! Lol now what about lining up the engine so it's in the same spot? Clutch alignment tool? Or should I be good to go by just dropping my bros engine back in.

You can use a straight edge or an alignment tool. I just dropped mine in and bought an alignment tool and it just happened to be perfect. I bought mine from MFG supply for like 20$. Better $20 than a 70$ belt. I honestly knew nothing about small engines till I bought my viper, I was mechanically inclined as I've worked on cars since I was a wee lad. If you have any mechanical know how you'll breeze through this. Just take your time and remove any and all bolts and things in your way and it'll go easy.

Well, transfer went smooth! Was very simple except for lifting them out...back hurt for a couple days after that. Anyways thanks for the help guys, now I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to my old engine to keep it "preserved" as much as possible. Would like to keep it as a spare, but if I can get a few bucks for it I will. Should I just put a blanket over it? Maybe dump some oil down the 2 cylinders that are still good just to keep it from rusting?

shoot some fogging oil inside the case and down the pistons. That stuff is sticky and will keep it well preserved. Spray some silicone lube on the outside to keep it from oxidizing if your really picky. If you took the reeds out you can put a rag in each intake to stop the environment from getting to it, same goes for the exhaust ports.
