Got some questions for you Yommie sled heads.
1982 440SS. Motor has one bad hole.
Mod: Can I put bigger jugs on top of my crankcase?
Swap: Which later model twin would work.
Sled already has a reworked 8" skid, new track, tunnel extension, and DG pipe. Pretty straight old girl I've had for 11 years. Too many memories to part out.
Thanks for any info.

I have heard that 485 phazer or venture jugs fit on that bottom end.

No...
Completely different.
535 SRV is a bolt in and it's parts are interchangeable with the SS440.

I thought the ss440 had the longer stroke, 64mm,than the 59.6mm of the Phazer. Wouldn't that cause a problem? I'm sure someone can verify this better than me.

I heard there is a guy up north of Detroit who machines SS440 heads to fir Phazer jugs. Opens up the top of the crankcase to fit the bigger bores. The angled plugs on the original 440 fan heads clear the fan shroud, so he makes the heads fit the Phazer cylinders.
Heard this really wakes up the sled, and eliminates the burn down issues the 540's were known for.
Sound like a fish story, or is it fact?

Story is true but the players are the Exciter 440 and Phazer 485.
SS440 is a different animal.

PS, The Ex440/Phazer hybrid has been built for years by many.
