Well the old girl is toast. My friend Dave & I went for a ride on Friday. When it started backfiring, and running only 2 cyls. I changed the plug, there was some aluminum on the plug, so I rode it back to the truck, maybe 5 minutes. I shut it off at the truck, when I started it to put it back on the truck, it ran 30 secs and suddenly stopped. So we lifted it into the truck and I took it home and opened it up. Thinking back I should have had Dave go get the truck and waited for him, oh well hind-sight is always 20-20...

yep, you blew it up real good.
On a better note, i saw a crank/cases-complete sxr600 bottomend on evil bay and it was only like $300, which isnt bad, and it will go right in your sled, all youd need is a used 700 cyl and piston and be back in the game.

Thanks, Mrviper. I will look into that on ebay. I know I did some looking over the weekend, but didn't see that, but I think I was using 700 as a search word. I've got a used piston in my shop, I would just need a cylinder.

Thanks MrViper! So do you think I can just clean up my head and use it again? or should find another one?

I saw a 3500 mile red head take out for $650 last week. It was a 98 so you might have to swap your stator and flywheel over. If you could find a good bottom end, you do have 2/3 a good top end in her. Did you get into the carbs yet? Was it a plugged jet burn down or did the wrist pin bearing let go on that one?

yea,you should have probably took my sled back and got youre truck,it seemed like it was moving pretty good, cant believe it had all that damage, probably needed a crank either way

I just had the carbs open to put a size bigger jets in it, since it's been so cold here. I didn't see anything blocked, and the main & pilot jets were all brand new. But I haven't had the carbs back out yet, so I don't know for sure.

I've been where you're at before...reason why I don't have my SRX anymore. I sold it after it blew a few years ago. What happened is I went out by myself to rip for a bit and was flogging on it pretty good as the trails were like a highway. After about 10min as I was coming back about 2mi from home, I lost a cylinder. I immediately shut it off and checked the plugs. My center plug has white speckles on it and I thought, "that isn't good". I put new plugs in it and started it up, still 2 cylinders. I shut it off and took out the center spark plug and pulled that plug wire to the side on a safe place where it wouldn't spark on any metal. Figured I'd limp it home the few minutes back on the 2 good cylinders. Thing about it is, I never heard anything happen, sled never made a noise, ran the same the whole way home. When I got home, sled started steaming like nobodies business. When I took it apart, center rod broke, blew through the cases, all antifreeze was gone. So bottom end was fubared along with the center cylinder. I sold the sled as is for $1000, was too pissed off to rebuild it. I should of stopped where I was instead of thinking I could limp it home. I was OK with it though, I paid $1700 for it a couple months earlier and put over 3000mi on it when it let go, bought it with 1600mi on it. I did all the normal maintenance on it and rode it, maybe I should of done more maintenance on it after the mileage I rode, maybe it wouldn't of let go... I guess what I'm saying is, if something isn't right, PARK it, as you're probably only going to make things worse in the end.

When you are out by yourself, that's tough to do. With a buddy and a second sled, is much easier to park it and haul it back.
But hindsight is always 20/20.
That sucks sledinair.

Happend to me last season with my viper, was going wot across a field and my rpms started to drop. Shut it down right away and checked the plugs, Center one had metallic specs on it. I didn't try to start it after that. Had someone drive to me and we threw it in the back of a a pickup.
