just found one of the cleanest 03 vipers iv'e ever seen, only issue is it needs a motor, the owner says its the crank bearings, top end is supposedly still good, just did a quick search locally and found a running 99 srx engine, (cheap) is it possible to use this bottom end with the viper top end and also the viper flywheel and magneto? second quick find was a sx 700 bottom end complete for cheap? i wouldnt want to use the srx pipes etc, going for the stock look!! any input ? thanks
 
It should be possible only difference if the connecting rods, they still connect to viper pistons they are just a different design. Make sure the crank is still good though, the 98-99 had problems and some needed to be welded

well not quite so easy, the 98-99 srx bottomend wont interchange because of where the pick up coil is located so the ign system from the viper wont operate unless you move the pick up coil location. if your not a fabricator, likely best to not buy it.

now,on the other side of the coin....... if you were to use a 2000-02 srx bottomend it would all bolt right back in with zero mods. I will tell you its highly likely that either the center or mag cylinder/piston will also be bad and the cause of the conn rod bearings to fail in the viper engine. head will almost also be toasted.
 
Why not use the 99 srx crank in the viper cases? that big bearing will ride on the two races on the pto end.

Mr Viper,, is it possible to use the viper cases if still good with the 99 crank? also the SX bottom end is that the same as the 99 or completely different? i did find a running 02 viper that is in rough shape, needs track, seat , cab busted but it has triple pipes, clutch kit, vforce reeds etc, but is still a little pricey at $1500 11000 km showing on speedo, could be a good donor machine (parts sled) are the 02-03 the exact same? like i said the 03 with the bad crank is as mint as they come,
 
You can use the SRX crank and drop it in the viper cases or you can use a 2000 and newer case and crank.
 
the 98-99 crank will fit the viper cases but you have to switch out the end crank bearings with the viper,(they just slip off by hand) so youd need to have good end bearings from the viper for the srx crank to work.

the early 98-99 srx crank has 2 separate bearings on the pto end and the mag end the dowel is in a differnt spot, so youd need a good 1 pc wide viper bearing and a good mag end beraing. then it will all bolt right back like before.
