I have a 2002 yamaha vmax 600. I installed a new battery. When I verifiedthe voltage it was 12.5 at idle and decreased to 12.15 at 3000 rpm. The last batteryonly lasted a couple of years and when I took it out I noticed it was dry. I initiallyfigured it over charged and boiled off but the current voltage does not suggestthat.
Does that voltage seem normal or does is sound low? If itslow does it point to the stator or could the voltage regulator also cause thatcondition?
Many thanks
Rodney

A good, filled fully charged battery should read 12.5 volts with the engine off and at the least that high at idle increasing all the way to as high as ~13.5 volts and more when the engine speed is increased. 12.15 volts at idle shows you have a serious load on the system and battery such as a shorted stator, voltage regulator or wire. Check you stator coil readings (ohms), the chassis grounds, the voltage regulator ground and all the wires for rub's thru the insulation.

I have searched high and low, where is the connector? the manual tells me that it is located near the CDI box, is it the square connector that is loose? I
