Well I know this is nothing new, however I have read posts on this site until my eyes bleed so I need to share my viper project.
I bought this sled last year at the end of snow rode it 2 miles max and then started the project in 12/13 after muzzle loader season ended.
Here is my Viper with its new srx parts.
02 Viper w/ 01 srx parts, torque limiter, motor mount, heads, water rail, rear cooler, base gasket. I o-ringed the viper jugs and made a water rail fabbed from 1 srx rail.(thanks staggs)I also found my pistons were a bit small on the skirts so I sent them out for coating (thanks mrviper)and hand lapped to fit with .0027" clearance being the goal fit. Fitting wasn't bad but probably not for the novice. I also purchase a racelogic porting template and went to work on the cylinders again unless you have spent some quality time with a grinder stay away... this could go bad in a hurry. Of course new rings, clips and even new top rod bearing, gaskets etc. Below are some numbers.
Compression before start up 119psi per hole
Squish .059
Needles 5th slot 1 washer on top and one on bottom
158.8 main jets all 3 holes
air screws 2-1/4 out
Stared it up last night and ran a couple of miles.Ran great no leaks but seems on the rich side (burbled)which I expected I had adjusted on that side didn't want it lean wasn't sure what the porting would do. Plugs look a bit rich, pistons looked wet when checked wash on needle circuit, but was hard to tell with so little riding and clean pistons. I think my next move will be moving the needles to 4 slot both washers on top.
That's all folks...did I miss anything the viper needs?Besides heavy hitters, I snapped it once hit 9000 real easy.
Ive rode an srx for years and its not that yet for sure, but so far so good. Here are a few pics

Yea they seemed rich, I had to guess at the needles, couldn't find a listed starting point.I did see piped viper were 160ish on the mains so I did go 2 sizes up on the mains with the 158.8s but didn't find the needle setting for piped viper.Maybe Ill bump to the 3.5 setting and keep a close eye and see, ive seen setting with no porting is 3.25-3.5,the porting template really doesn't hog a bunch out, just a bit on exhaust ports and knocks the intake bumps down a bit.
thx
