Any ideas on where to look other than checking the resistance? I have not started working on them yet. I was looking to get a little advise other than checking the resistance before I started. JW

a lot of times the internal wires in the grips short out on the handlebars if they are cut in anyway. On my '97, the wire going down the handlebar was shorting out, i saw it arcing in the dark with the handlebar pad off.

Been there done that

My 2001sxr had the same problem, no breaks in the wire or cuts yet it just died. Only recourse, purchase a new set, and be careful to install and rivit at the same location, then plug it in. Warning, don't be cheap and try aftermarket warmers, they just don't cut it, trust me, been there, stupidly did it. :o|

the heated grips are $25 each at the dealer. Just replaced one of mine after it broke and then shorted out on that side. Get some good 2 part epoxy rated for 250*F or higher (per the instructions that come with the grip). I replaced mine the other day... make sure you rough up the handle bar surface too.... I used 40 grit sand paper. Then clean the handle bar. Not a hard job.

It's probably one of the grips if all your connections are tight. Are either one of them loose at all on the handlebars? If so, the connection is probably been cut. A good trick I just learned on this site, is to unplug them individually and run jumper wires from the grip wires to a 12 volt battery, if they heat up they are good if they don't they are bad. I just went through this last week and it was the grip. Soc
