I posted this in the tech section too but was hoping for a reply here.I found an offset timing key for the flywheel in my 01 SRX when I tore it down and wondered with the combo in that engine if there's any real advantage to having it in there or should I use a standard one for a trail rider? What I have is a trail ported engine with bored carbs and for those that don't know this used to be a drag sled but I've turned it back into a trail runner so having the timing key in there may not be all that much of a benefit.I do have a stock key to put in if need be.
Opinions?

I would just use the stock key since you have it.

timing is key to big performance on the srx triple. but i don,t like trail and timing in the same sentence. manly because alot of gas today is pretty bad. that key probley a 3'' degree timing key, will give it slight kick. 3:16 (yammie tony)

advanced timing puts more heat into the pistons in a 2 stroke, all drag racing stuff. With todays lousy fuel when you add more heat into the pistons coupled with a tank of marginal fuel and youll find mr detonation, who will be happy to beat up your pistons and rings...poof burned piston..
you dont need that in a trail sled.
