86' SRV Coil Problems HELP!!

Ok, here it goes, my buddy has burned through 3 coils on his srv. He disconnected the ignition male female connector in the backside of the ignition because he lost the key and started using the kill switch. the rubber boot surrounding the kill switch is gone and exposed to the elements. Also when the coil goes bad he still gets spark to one side "PTO" but the other side always burns out. I dont know if either of the two issues above would allow for the coil too burn out or if there's a short somewhere or if the magneto could cause this. Any input would be great. thanks Aaron

i would start out by finding a new ignition switch then if the problem persists i would use a meter to test what kind of voltage your cdi is putting out
