Been thinking about getting my son a 99 vmax 600 twin Are these sleds any good? It has 2700 miles on it.
He currently rides a 91 cat ext with a 530. He is only 14

The same guy also has a 97 sx700 with 2600 miles on it. Which is what I currently ride but I think it is to much power for a 14 year old

Yep, they are good sleds, and by 99 they had the could of issues all straightened out. Our venture is essentially the same sled, and it's been really good to us. Over 8500 miles and no real issues, still has 129 psi per cylinder.

He is asking 1800 a piece for them. A little high I think but cash also talks. I have thought about buying both and getting rid of the two older cats I have. The girlfriend could ride the 700. The kid the 600 twin. Then all 3 of my sleds would basically use the same parts.

The 700 has a 1 1/4 track thats all I know about them. I really have not looked at them hard yet. They are at a local sled shop so they should be in good condition.

I thought about that whole fuel thing. It couldnt be any worse then the cat he rides now. He would get a newer sled so some bonuses there like they hydrolic brakes, better clutches ects. The supension I am not sure about?? I assume it the pro action like on my 97 sx 700. A coulpe of 600 triples would be nice. But I can not seem to find any near me for sale.

This may not always be the case unless you know and trust the shop, and if the shop can verify for you that they do a thorough inspection and take care of any running/riding issues. These sleds might be from an auction, trade-in, or consignment, and either way they could be in good condition or they could have been someone else's problems. It is still buyer beware, and up to the buyer to know as much about the model of sled he's looking to purchase, and check everything over closely including a test run if you can, and also a compression test if you can as well.

Many dealerships and sled shops want to maximize their profit on used equipment, and therefore may not put much effort into inspection and repairs at all. It might be a good idea to visit all of the dealers & shops in your area to see what they have used from all manufactures, and this may give you an idea of the quality available and if basic repairs for ridability and even safety have been taken care of. I can recall shopping for an SRX about 6-8 years ago and finding one with reasonable miles on the odometer advertised for sale at the largest local, and very well respected, dealership. Upon inspection the sled looked very well used and I suspected the actual miles were higher than shown. I also noticed a small area of coolant under the sled, so I tipped it on its side right there in the showroom and watched coolant run off one of the running board heat exchangers and continue to slowly seep out. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

It's also up to the buyer to determine what the market value is for the sled in question, and what do you want to pay, keeping in mind that dealership sleds typically cost more than private party sleds. I know these sleds are getting old, but does the sled shop offer a warranty on those Vmax's?

srx700c I agree with you. You can also buy junk from a private party as well. There are many back yard mechanics. I have dealt with this sled shop for over 5 years and he has not treated me bad yet. But it doesn't me he couldn't start. As far as market value I am not asking for op-ions on that. I want to know the known problems for these 2 sleds.

I can check the normal sled stuff track, skies, wear bars, hyfaxes, ect. I want to know the not normal stuff for these two models.

99 vmax 600 twin. What are the know problems. Other then this one need stickers removed

97 sx 700. stators fail, bad bearings in crankcase, over rev What else

My Venture gets good gas millage. I cannot complain at all. The sled I got for my son some time ago was a Formula 583 which has power valves. It uses its entire tank and working on the 3 gallon spare carried with us and the Venture is showing 1/4 tank. My son is getting my Venture now as he wanted to upgrade his track but its not worth doing it in that 94 Formula so I told him to take the Venture. I got down graded!!!

Funny how the parents great down graded right. I am tring to stay away from power valves. Is your venture a triple or a twin this v max 600 is a twin.

As per my signature its a 600 and a twin. With a triple there is higher likelihood of failure if one of the three carbs are off or plugged you may not know it from what I have read here. I don't need more power either or high end speed. I don't use what I have for my riding. 600 engines are pretty bullet proof IMO.
