New seat needed for 1994 VMAX 600 DX...must I use a 2 up seat?

Hi everyone,
My 1994 VMAX 600 DX currently has the 2-up seat. At this point the seat is ripped, and needs to be recovered. I really don't want/need the 2-up seat, so can the seat be replaced with a single seat? If so, what other years/models of a single seat will fit my sled? As you can see in the photo, my seat desperately needs repair! I just don't want a 2-up seat.....

Thanks,
Zack

Those sleds are in desperate need of a taller longer seat for most people. You might be in a good position to obtain that by taking that bad boy to an upholstery shop and have them raise (add more foam) the front section of the seat to the height of the back section. Then for the cover, either tie into the good cover material at the back, or just recover the whole thing. Between you and them, you can likely come up with a design that looks good and functions great! You could also likely keep or ditch the backrest.

The 1up seats and 2up seats may interchange on your DX, I've never tried it but I suspect your mounting points are in the same location as 1up, if not they are likely very similar. The 1up is attached in 4 locations: the bolts that you can see on both sides at the lower front, and then two studs that are in the bottom of the seat below the trunk/tailigh area. The studs fit in holes in the tunnel, and you remove the 2 nuts and washers from inside the tunel above the track/rear axle. It's really easy, just don't forget to unplug the tailight wiring harness. The 1up seat also has a wood board underneath that the seat cover is stapled into. The wood often is rotted and the staples rusted since these sled are getting older, that's why you see a lot of the YAMAHA on these seats in a curve or other goofy shape. It's pretty easy to replace the board if needed and just get some staples or short enough tacks to reattach the seat cover. Sorry got off subject there a little since your cover is torn and needs replaced.

If your 2up seat does in fact interchange with 1ups, then you can use any Vmax4 seat 1992-1997, and any Vmax500-600 1up seat 1994-1996. Note that in 1996 Yamaha added about 1" of foam to the seat, so it is a bit taller than the prior years and more ergonomic for most people, but still could be taller.
If your 2up doesn't perfectly interchange, you likely just need to drill 2 other holes in the tunnel to line up with the studs, just don't drill into the cooling system that you'll see back there, above and below the tunnel. I would imagine the front 2 mounts are the same regardless of 1up or 2up.
