86 Phazer running on one cylinder help

i have an 86 Phazer and one cylinder isn't igniting. i have heard of fuel lines and filter eletrical cylinder heads coming loose piston rings and dirty carbs. i am good with tools and a handy minor mechanic on engines. i was wondering if i could get detailed instructions on how to do any of these tasks. i have a cylmer manual but it dosent seem to clear for me on some of these tasks. any help is apreciated thanks.

Take plugs out and crank it over a few times to see if they spark. (keep them grounded to the block when checking for spark)
If they do, then get a compression guage and check both holes.

As per above check spark. Put some fresh plugs in. You need to figure out if its a 1.fuel 2.ignition or 3.compression issue. Make sure carbs are clean.
