I have a 204 Viper Mountain with triple bender pipes. I recently changed all the springs and put new copper gaskets on all the seams on the pipes. I can ride it on the trail all day and it works fine, but after a bit of powder riding it seems to lose power. After letting it sit for a bit, it regains full power for a bit then reoccurs after awhile of running through some powder. Anyone have any ideas what the issues could be? its not the plugs or caps as I have tested those.

something getting wet?

It doesn't seem that anything getting wet is the issue, I have put snow in it on the pipes just to see if it worsened, which it did not. After awhile the power came back if I left it turned off. Just seems to be reoccurring when I am in and out of powder riding.

I was just going to post a thread about the same thing. I have a 03 viper with bender triple pipes. Mine is doing the same thing in powder too. This is known as the viper bog. As I understand it snow gets on the pipes which cools them down and also steams the snow under the hood which causes a bog. Mine I can usually throttle a few times and clear it out. I know snow packs in the forced air induction too and I am going to get a set of these filters for it to see if it helps.

I could see blocking off the screens would help with the bog. Anybody come up with some filters that block the snow from coming through the screens??

There are several things that can plague the Viper. There are some older posts about some of them on here. One thing that happens is that the exhaust gets partially blocked and exhaust gases fill up the engine compartment which results in poor oxygen content of the intake mixture. Do some searching and read several posts, if any of them fit your situation try the recommendations.

check out your local fabric store and ask about organza or chiffon.I was just going to post a thread about the same thing. I have a 03 viper with bender triple pipes. in powder, the snow stocks to everything, weighs down the sled and asks a lot more of the clutches. my sled has stone cold clutches on the trail once i dip into the powder for 5 minutes i can fry an egg on the primary. your engine might seem "powerless" as the belt is slipping

That was another thought I had. Also secondary twist and conditions of the powder. Seems funny but with my srx I can not run a 60 twist in powder. Sucks the belt to fast and cant recover causes bog. Increased to 70 no issue.

This is why roller secondaries are good off-trail. They minimize the friction so that the backshift is much faster. Basically you make up the loss of friction on the upshift with more spring which greatly improves the backshift.

I have screens put on the front vents so no snow is getting in. I do have the stock exhaust plate underneath the sled which could be causing an issue. Has anyone switched this out when converting from stock exhaust to triple pipes?

I looked at a few other posts that suggested putting two vents up on the dash and sealing everything else up air tight. Has anyone tried this and cured the bog issues. Its getting annoying enough as it is because who likes trail riding all day?
My intake foam waz totally iced over this weekend . Had to bail out on a lil hill climb & got left behind for a while.
Had to thaw the foam block on stock muff n pipes.Other than that My old viper waz in its prime playin in the deep stuff with all them new fancy sledz ... I have a box of tripple pipes still in garage waitin for me to install . Just too scared to screw with the reliability of my Viper untill I step it up & buy a new sled....Never gonna part with my 05 viperM though. Gonna look at puttin sum kind of screen on all the hood vents to keep powder out of intake
