Having some problems with an 01 SXR 700. Took it out the other day and would only run up to 7000 rpm then it would kick in and the rpms would climb good, come up to a stop sign, get back on the gas again and it would cut out really bad, sounded like it was only running on one cyl. It didnt even have enough power to move the sled, then all of a sudden it would kick in and go. Tried new plugs, cleaned carbs, replaced the o-rings on the needle and seats, made sure everything was adjusted properly and still doing the same thing. Another thing it was doing....when you first try to start it, it would fire for a second then cut out/shut off for a second then keep running. I'm thinking something electrical. There looks to be a little rust on the flywheel but not too bad so I don't know if that would be the problem. Anyone have any ideas why it would be doing this?

sounds like your throttle over ride system is malfunctioning..try disconnecting it down by the carbs, should be two wires, unplug and plug into each other!

Had a similar problem on my sxr this year. Would run like a dog until it got to 5000 rpm, then it would really rip. Also idled quite low after running it. I re-cleaned carbs, same thing. Took it to a very good backyard sled mechanic to see what he thought.... found broken primary spring.

Spring is good, I'm almost thinking it might be the stator because the hand warmers barely work now. Stator might not be putting out enough power. The way it runs is kinda intermitant, it will only get up to 8000 then rpms jump up and it runs great, running good one minute then bad the next. Tried new plugs and caps and that seemed to help a little.
